Daylight Savings Time change this year

In 2005 congress passed the “Energy Policy Act of 2005” which officially adds a month to daylight savings time. The rational behind the change is that with four extra weeks of daylight less energy will need to be used by houses and cars. The change is that this year daylight savings time starts three weeks earlier on March 11th, and it ends a week later on November 4th.

I am a big fan of this because I hate getting off work and having it be dark already. This way I get an extra hour of light every evening for an extra month. Of course there are those who think that it will not end up saving that much energy because all the clocks and operating systems that are pre-programmed for daylight savings time now need to be changed. My guess is that this year things will come out even, and in years to come there will be a net savings of energy. On a practical level this is definitely a fantastic change.

Winter has arrived!

Sunday I told everyone that winter was going to arrive this week, and I got laughed out of town. I insisted, and they laughed more. This morning I woke up to snow, and all I wanna say is, look whose laughing NOW!

We got 2 or 3 whole inches, and the triangle is shut down, with more then 80 accidents reported in our area. Even if you are one of the chosen few who actually knows how to drive in snow, I wouldn’t try, because more dangerous to snow are the other drivers around you.

So get out your snowboards and sleds, plug your VPN into your works network, start a fire and put on some Christmas music, because its a snow day!

Bed Jumping!

Ok so by now I am sure everyone has heard that my brothers and I are pretty avid hotel bed jumpers. What I didn’t know however was just how popular and widespread our hobby was. The Piton posted about a bed jumping blog that contains hundreds of pictures of bed jumpers, some in some quite fantastic poses. Cyberhobo rides his bike to the school everyday where he is a professor, and this year he took a picture once a month of a particular spot on his commute. The result is a pretty neat slide show where you can see the seasons changing. Check it out here.
