Snowboarding
This past Saturday Jillian and I got to go skiing/snowboarding yet again (3rd time in 4 weeks!) this time at Beech Mountain as chaperones for the middle schoolers in our church. I got another chance at snowboarding and had a lot of fun. By the end of the day I was doing slopes 3 or 4 times in a row without falling down. Something I didnt even believe was possible at lunch time. I got to ski with some of the kids from our group, and with my wife, and one highlight was a great conversation concerning the five points of calvinism with a nice guy on a ski lift. I am really excited to go again next year (maybe by then my bottom will be healed) and I can’t wait till Jillian and Karissa can join me boarding. It is gonna be a lot of fun!
Ok so every monday I get a column by Dave Barry in my email and most appropriately, here is todays. I enjoyed it very much especially given my most recent experiences. To read it I believe you need an account with the newspaper but its free and the account works with many other big newspapers as well so it is definately worthwhile. Here is an excerp:
For those of you who, for whatever reason, such as a will to live, do not participate in downhill winter sports, I should explain that snowboarding is an activity that is very popular with people who do not feel that regular skiing is lethal enough. These are, of course, young people, fearless people, people with 100 percent synthetic bodies who can hurtle down a mountainside at 50 mph and knock down mature trees with their faces and then spring to their feet and go, ”Cool.”
